Can you help us understand something?  We keep putting announcements in the paper about the opportunity for readers to publish information — first online and then in the paper — but few people have seemed interested in doing so.  Let me explain the concept.
The Summerfield Press is different from the Star-Banner, which publishes it. Our goal is to provide geographically specific information. That is, we’re less concerned about telling you what happened in Dunnellon last night or what will happen in Silver Springs tomorrow. We aim to zero in on your city and its close environs, and make that the focus. We want to give you news you can't get in other ways, and the goal is to help enhance your community.
One aspect of that is reverse publishing.  The idea is to involve readers in their paper. Our Web site is set up for you to contribute content. I know you’ve read this here before: You can post announcements about your clubs and charitable organizations to help bring people to your events.
You can make a photo gallery of your grandchildren, class, team, boyfriend or pets, whatever; you can scan in a picture you’ve drawn or painted; share an essay or poem you wrote for school; write a short story about an interesting issue, person or event in your neighborhood. You also can respond to forums like this one and add new topics. Plus, you can comment on stories that you read in the paper and interact with the writer, with other readers and with me.  And then I can cull that information and put it into print form to share here in the paper. It’s a great way to share information.
So this begs the question: Why so few postings?  Is it that you are too busy? Don't have anything to share? Don't feel comfortable writing? Is the Web site too difficult to understand? Do you not want to register (it's free)? By the hit counts, we have many members and many viewers, but not many contributors.  If you know why this is, please clue me in.  Could it be that you are shy? Well, I've broken the ice.
As a special incentive, we’re putting up a $100 gift certificate to Wal-Mart. Anyone who posts anything to summerfield.com now (the contest actually started Oct. 6) through Oct. 20 is eligible to win.  If I can help you in any way, just holler.  Alison Brown,  867-4114

Hi:  I don't know if this is the right place to put this but  -
First , I have put several articles on this site so I am using it.  I love the opportunity to be heard.
Second - I think you might add another catagory for submitted articles.  When I put in the patriotic ones, I found there was no specific catagory for them.  With all of the things going on today, I think we need to be actively promoting patriotism and the love and respect for our country.
         Love and Prayers,

I am a new resident at Spruce Creek CC. I am also hearing impaired. I am looking to form a club for the Hearing Impaired. This club would provide help and information to any person who is hearing impaired. Their family members and friends. We would have a guest lecture program. We would discuss the rights of the hearing impaired under the Americcan for Disabilities Act. Making the community aware of the different types of hearing impairment. We would remove the stigma and shame some people with hearing impairment feel. We would provide information so our friends and famly to understand how to best adjust and live with the hearing impaired.

I find the articals interesting as they are about and from our community. My wife and I plan on making more familys aware of the Summerfield Press and getting involved. This is a great concept.
Thank you
